Zenni vs. EyeBuyDirect: Prices, Shipping, Returns and Warranty Compared

Zenni and EyeBuyDirect are two of the best-known budget online glasses retailers. Their frames start at similar prices, but their return policies, shipping costs and warranties differ in ways that matter if a pair does not work out.

Some pages may contain ads or labeled affiliate links. Disclosure.

If you shop for glasses online on a budget, you will almost certainly end up comparing Zenni Optical and EyeBuyDirect. Both sell prescription glasses with frames advertised from single-digit prices, both ship in roughly one to two weeks, and both accept vision insurance or FSA/HSA payment in some form. The real differences are in the details: what you get back if you return a pair, how long the warranty lasts, and when shipping becomes free.

This comparison uses only facts published on each retailer's own website, checked on October 26, 2026, with links to the source pages. Retailers change prices and policies, so confirm the current terms before you order. We have not ordered glasses from either retailer for this article, and we are not affiliated with either. Links are plain links.

This is a shopping comparison, not eye care advice. You will need a valid prescription, and an optician or eye doctor is the right person to ask about which lenses suit your eyes.

Price: very close at the low end

Both retailers advertise frames from under $7, and both run frequent sales. On paper, the entry price is effectively a tie. What separates the final price is everything you add: lens material, coatings, blue-light filtering, photochromic lenses, progressives and shipping.

Two practical tips apply to both stores:

  • Price the whole order, not the frame. Build your exact prescription and lens choices in each site's configurator, then compare the totals including shipping.
  • Watch the free-shipping threshold. A $4.95 or $5.95 shipping fee is a large share of a $20 order. If you need two pairs, combining them into one order can push you past the threshold.

Shipping: Zenni is slightly cheaper and has more speed options

Standard shipping costs $4.95 at Zenni and 5.95atEyeBuyDirect, withsimilar7–14businessdayestimates.Zenni′sfree − shippingthresholdislower, althoughwesawtwodifferentfigures(65 in its shipping FAQ and $89 on some product pages) on the same day, so check the cart. Zenni also lists several paid rush tiers. EyeBuyDirect offers UPS Express from $19 and a 2-Day Delivery option on eligible frames.

Edge: Zenni on standard shipping cost; it depends on the frame for fast delivery.

Returns: EyeBuyDirect is more generous

This is the biggest difference between the two.

  • Zenni: within 14 days of delivery you can choose a refund to your original payment method, minus the cost of shipping. From day 15 to day 30, returns are for store credit only. Zenni's store credit expires two years after it is issued.
  • EyeBuyDirect: within 30 days of receiving your order you can request a full refund or a one-time replacement pair. EyeBuyDirect credits and replacement pairs are themselves non-refundable.

If you are buying your first pair online, unsure about a frame size, or ordering a complex prescription, the longer cash-refund window at EyeBuyDirect is a meaningful safety net.

Edge: EyeBuyDirect.

Warranty: EyeBuyDirect covers defects for longer

Zenni's warranty covers glasses made incorrectly within 30 days and defects in AR coatings and photochromic films for one year. EyeBuyDirect's 365-Day Guarantee offers a one-time replacement within 12 months for noticeable craftsmanship defects. Neither covers accidents, negligence or wear and tear.

Edge: EyeBuyDirect for frame and craftsmanship defects; similar for coating defects.

Fit: measure before you order from either

Most online returns come down to fit. Before ordering, find the three numbers printed inside one temple of a pair that fits you well (for example 52-18-145) and compare them with the measurements listed on each frame's product page. Both retailers publish frame measurements; Zenni's product pages list frame width, bridge, lens width, lens height and temple length. Our guide to frame size numbers explains what each one means.

Those same numbers tell you what size case you need. Budget frames usually ship with a basic case; if you want something sturdier, our case size finder turns your frame measurements into case dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zenni or EyeBuyDirect cheaper?

Their advertised starting prices are nearly identical. The cheaper option for you depends on your prescription, lens add-ons and whether your order reaches the free-shipping threshold. Build the same order at both and compare totals.

Can I get a refund from Zenni?

Yes, within 14 days of delivery, to your original payment method and minus shipping. Returns between 15 and 30 days are for store credit, according to Zenni's policy page.

What is EyeBuyDirect's return policy?

EyeBuyDirect advertises 30-Day Free Returns for a full refund or a one-time replacement pair, plus a 365-Day Guarantee for craftsmanship defects.

Do Zenni and EyeBuyDirect include a case?

Both typically ship glasses with a case. If you want a more protective case for travel or a bag, see our best glasses cases comparison.

Bottom line

On price, Zenni and EyeBuyDirect are close enough that your specific order decides it. On policy, EyeBuyDirect's 30-day full-refund window and 12-month craftsmanship guarantee are more forgiving, while Zenni offers cheaper standard shipping and more rush options. If you are new to buying glasses online, the more forgiving return policy is worth weighing heavily. Either way, measure a pair that fits before you order, and check the current terms on each site.
